The ANOW syringe filters come in a variety of different membrane types. How do I choose the right membrane for my sample?

2015-02-02

Choosing the membrane filter type depends on the chemical compatibility with your solution-whether your solution is aqueous, organic or aqueous/organic.

1) Nylon and hydrophilic PTFE are commonly used in HPLC applications since they have a broad chemical compatibility and can be used for aqueous and organic solutions.

2) Hydrophilic PVDF and PES are recommended for filtering protein solutions because of their very low-binding properties. Both are compatible with mild organic solutions.

3) Hydrophobic PTFE is recommended for organic solutions since this membrane has a broad chemical compatibility.

4) MCE membranes have been well established for use in dissolution testing and are also used for general aqueous filtration.
